Owl Themed Kindergarten & 3’s School Lunches (and a Blogiversary!)

Today is my 2nd blog anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been two years already. It’s been such a HOOT.

To celebrate, here are two cute, little owl lunches:

I made owl shaped pumpkin cream cheese sandwiches. I added googly eyes and used my Food Writers to add wings, beaks, and little owl toes (claws?). I also packed dried cranberries, cheddar sandwich crackers, homemade cinnamon applesauce, and a [partially eaten, shhhh] Little Debbie Star Crunch.

HoooooOOOoooOOOO,

Kristin

Homemade Lunchables Kindergarten School Lunch (again!)

wpid-wp-1444855419057.jpg

I made a homemade Lunchable(s) for tomorrow’s school lunch. I packed plain graham crackers, sliced colby jack cheese, sliced and rolled ham, dried cranberries, pickles, homemade cinnamon applesauce, and a cut up Little Debbie Star Crunch. And just in case you’re wondering…yes, I eat a teeny portion of that Star Crunch each time I cut it.

Animal Kindergarten & 3’s School Lunches (and a fun counting game!)

For last Friday’s lunch (I am OBVI up to date with and on top of all things in my life), I went with a piggy theme. My little one is learning about farm animals and I thought my big one would just appreciate a piggy shaped sandwich (who wouldn’t?).

wpid-wp-1444399125290.jpg

I made piggy shaped sunbutter and jam sandwiches, and used Food Writers to add details. They are perched upon their crusty hay. I also packed Terra chips, plum, corn, and yogurt covered pretzels.

Oink.

Part of today’s homeschool assignment for my Bigs was to create a numbers game that he could share with his class tomorrow. We came up with an elephant themed one.

wpid-wp-1444682537220.jpg

I wrote numbers from 5 – 100 (by denominations of 5) on peanuts. We stapled some elephant cupcake picks to paper bags and cut a hole in one side of the paper bags, so when you lift the elephant flap, you can feed them. The directions are to feed each elephant according to their tastes – one likes only peanuts counting by 5’s (minus those ending in 0’s), and the other by 10’s. The kids are to say the numbers as they pick them up, as well.

So, for tomorrow’s lunch, I went with an elephant theme.

I made an elephant shaped sunbutter and apple jelly sandwich. I outline him just for a little more detail. I also packed cheddar sandwich crackers, colby jack cheese, corn, plum, and a Little Debbie Star Crunch.

For tomorrow’s lunch, I packed a sunbutter and strawberry jam sandwich, cut into triangles. I also packed colby jack cheese, a plum (my Bigs’ favorite!) and a cut up Star Crunch (also a childhood favorite of mine!!).

Happy Thursday!

Mummy Sandwich Kindergarten School Lunch

Oh, you guys. The times, they’ve been rough. My little big guy is still in his sling for his broken clavicle. He’s got to stay in that for another three weeks, we were told by his doctor today. I got a stomach bug yesterday (or food poisoning, I’m not sure). I had a two day horrible migraine. I’m still sort of dealing with that one. My truck got a SUPER flat tire (as in, I could hear the air whooshing out)…turns out it had a RAZOR BLADE IN IT. Thank you to the guys renovating the house across the street (also doing the roof, SO nice to hear that hammering with a migraine!). The car people also realigned my tires, but really didn’t at all, so we had to go back a second time. SIIIIIIIIGH. I’m so excited to leave those times behind me and face the week in front of me.

Despite all of that (sorry for complaining!), I wanted to make a super fun lunch for my one-armed brave bubba.

I made ham, cheese, and mayo kebabs and added googly eyes. They are now mummy kebabs. I also packed goldfish crackers, mandarin oranges, seasoned corn, and a favorite from my childhood – a Little Debbie Pumpkin Delight. I added a few Halloween decorations (a cupcake pick and a ring). I think he’ll love it. He thinks mummies are rad. Unless they’re scary. Then they’re scary, not rad.

Here’s hoping things take a turn for the better.

Word to your Mummy.

Catch Up Lunches

I’m baaack. It’s been a week. My oldest son broke his clavicle at the end of last week. I’ve been so busy with him that a) I’ve made crappy blog-unworthy lunches and b) I haven’t had time to write any posts. Not that you’d want to see them on those lunches anyway. #sorrykids

Here is what I’ve packed for this week so far:

wpid-wp-1443479858464.jpg

I made turkey, cheese, and mayo sandwiches on multi-grain bread. I also packed Terra chips, corn (for Bigs), grapes, a Little Debbie pumpkin cupcakes (Bigs), and a few candy corn (Smalls).

For today’s lunches, I made pumpkin cream cheese and cinnamon raisin bread sandwiches. I also packed cubed colby jack cheese, rolled up ham, grapes, Goldfish crackers, Little Debbie pumpkin cupcake (Bigs), and broccoli (Smalls).

Have a great week!

Three Thursday Lunches

Tomorrow is school for both of my boys…AND I get to work in the Co-op with my older son. I love these special times we get to share together. I packed three lunches for tomorrow.

For my Smalls:

I packed a crust-less PB&J sandwich, red grapes, a banana, Trader Joe’s honey wheat pretzels, a few yogurt raisins, and half an oatmeal cream pie. Sadly, this meal is a bit monochromatic, but still enjoyable.

For my Bigs:

I packed another crustless PB&J, red grapes, honey wheat pretzels, a mandarin orange, the other half to Smalls’ oatmeal cream pie, and some yogurt raisins.

And for me:

I packed red grapes, cherry tomatoes, one small cucumber (cut on the bias, because they feel fancy), a mandarin orange, some Trader Joe’s sesame sticks, a piece of chili-rubbed dried mango, some trail mix, and a few dark chocolate sea salt almonds. I love all the color.

Happy Thursday,

Kristin

Kebab VPK School Lunch

It’s kebabs for lunch for my buddy tomorrow!

wpid-photogrid_1421185612130.jpg

I love giving him kebabs. It’s a great way to cut some carbs and it’s a fun way to serve lunch. I found mini skewers at my Publix. I used Applegate Naturals ham and cheese on the skewers. I also packed Trader Joe’s honey wheat pretzels, a whole mandarin orange, TJ’s assorted jumbo raisins, an applesauce cup, and an oatmeal cream pie, because #littledebbieforlife.

Happy the-week-is-half-over-day!

Kristin

Unda Da Sea

Tomorrow is Friday – YAY! We made it through another week. For my Bigs’ lunch tomorrow, I wanted to do something extra fun. Fridays should be extra fun. So should Mondays. And maybe all the days in between. But for tomorrow, Friday, let’s focus on that.

I went Under the Sea crazy! I LOVE under the sea things.

wpid-photogrid_1409259874146.jpg

I made a PB&J and used an octopus cookie cutter to make the shape. I find it’s easier to get a “clean” shape when you use frozen bread (I always keep my bread in the freezer). I used a teeny bit of food safe spray (gold and green) to give this little guy some octopus-effect. I used candy eyes for the eyes (duh), an spread a teeny bit of peanut butter on the tentacles, so that the sequin sprinkles would stick to it. Can’t have an octopus without suckers, now, can you? I packed blueberry and champagne grape “bubbles”, sea cucumbers (pickles), and seasoned corn. And for dessert…look away those against highly processed foods…a Little Debbie Coral Reef Cake.

I can’t even.

Have a great night and almost TGIF!
